Interview with Gene Scorringe

Where do you come from? where did you grow up?

I was born in Hamilton New Zealand, I grew up in popular beach resort town called Whangamata. Next was Auckland, where I studied for 5 years, before moving to Sydney to continue my studies.

What were your interests growing up?

Started surfing, skiing and rugby at age 5 and went on to compete on N.Z surfing circuit whilst being sponsored by an Australian surfing company.

What got you into the health industry?

I have always had a natural desire to work with people from a young age. I discovered Yoga at 17 which then lead into a massage therapy course. Following a back injury playing rugby a couple of years later I was introduced to an Osteopath who was able to relieve my symptoms and injury for life. I was hooked!

How would you define optimal health and lifestyle/ what is your philosophy?

I have a holistic (whole body) approach to health care. As an Osteopath, I do not simply focus treating the problem area, but use manual techniques to balance all the systems of the body, to provide overall good health.

What do you try to achieve with your patients?

I aim to achieve optimal homeostasis with in there bio psychosocial system, meaning, I aim to have my patients back to their daily lives within 3-4 treatments.

What do you specialise in/ focus on?

I focus on making sure all parts of the body are functioning together in an integrated manner. If one part of the body is restricted, then the rest of the body must adapt and compensate for this, eventually leading to inflammation, pain, stiffness and other health conditions. When the body is free of restrictions in movement, pain is minimised, stress is reduced, providing the body with the opportunity to heal itself.

What are your interests now/are you married/do you have children?

I am currently living in Bondi where I maintain an active whilst balanced lifestyle consisting of Triathlon training, surfing, squash, tennis, gym and Yoga.
