Where do you come from/ where did you grow up?
I was born in Mumbai. Being the first born I was delivered at my maternal grandparents hometown. My late grandfather, a Cardiac and ENT Surgeon, was the President of The Indian Medical Council at the time. He wanted my mother to have me delivered in Mumbai.
I spent most of my childhood years schooling in the UK. My parents lived in East Africa, where I would spend all my school holidays. This gave me great diversity and taught me independence and adaptability.
I completed my medical degree at St Mary’s Hospital, London University in 1982 and came to Australia to work in general practice, initially in Melbourne then Sydney.
For family reasons I went back overseas working in South Africa and the UK for 12 years. I returned to Australia two years ago with my husband, initially living and working in Noosa, and then returned to the magical city of Sydney.
What were your interests growing up?
I travelled a lot whilst I was growing up and loved to see and experience different parts of the world. I was intrigued by Eastern Philosophy and read widely in search of truths. I love cooking, swimming, listening to music, and connecting with nature. I was always intrigued by the mysteries and the deeper meaning of life, always asking the question, of who am I and what is my real purpose. I would seek out people of wisdom, just to try and learn more from them.
What got you into the health industry?
My grandfather inspired me to become a Medical Doctor, at the tender age of 6. I used to admire his achievements and the respect he commanded. Little did I understand the many challenges one faces graduating to be a doctor, but I survived. Because of my interest in always finding the deeper meaning of any subject, I could not stop at just graduating as a doctor; I had to learn not only how to treat patients, but what it takes to heal them. Hence the desire to study the varied complementary modalities.
I was attracted by the ancient Greek meaning of a Physician “A physician is a person who facilitates the bodies own self-healing abilities”.
How would you define optimal health and lifestyle/what is your philosophy?
Optimal health and life style is individual, and it the sum of the health goals that a person can realistically achieve to feel their personal best. I believe it is an integration of mind, body and spirit and a loving acceptance of one self.
What do you try to achieve with your clients/patients?
I feel it is important to foremost try and gain a trusting relationship with the patient. I try and gain an understanding from the patient that health and wellness can be achieved best by partnering with the patient, and that health is a self directed and evolving process of achieving their full potential. Once this foundation is laid down, then I can build on their strengths to get the best possible clinical outcome.
I like to emphasize, that I am merely an instrument for transformation, but the true healing comes from within.
What do you specialise in/ Focus on?
I focus on treating the cause of the problem, rather than the symptoms alone.
My approach is holistic looking at all the different aspects that could be influencing the patient using the best of complementary and conventional medicine to bring about the best clinical outcome.
My specialities are all Chronic Illnesses, Fibromyalgia, Chronic fatigue Syndrome, Adrenal Fatigue, Stress Management, Metabolic Conditions, Thyroid problems, Liver Detoxification and improving gut health, Cancer support, Nutritional deficiencies, Musculoskeletal problems, Women’s Health, Menopause through natural hormone therapy, Polycystic Ovarian Disease, Menstrual problems, + Fertility.
I integrate traditional wisdom with modern scientific medicine.

What better place to put it all together than in Australia, which is truly a multicultural nation?

I worked in Europe’s largest holistic clinics, The Hale Clinic and The Integrated Health Centre, where people travelled from far and wide to receive treatment for various ailments.
What are your interests now/ are you married/ do you have children?
I spend much of my spare time with my family as I find it very nurturing. I love creative cooking for relaxation; I like to spend time with Nature, with self reflection and quiet meditation. I am happily married and have a beautiful daughter Rowena and a caring step-son Sasheen.
What are your proudest achievements/career highlights?
I established The Sivanna Institute of Health and Wellness in Capetown. We provided an exceptional healing environment for many in South Africa, who would travel from all over the country to go through our health and wellness programs. I had a wonderful team of supportive therapists to help me, along with my husband Girish who motivated and inspired me to carry out the work I was so passionate about.
