Coaching / Psychology

What is coaching?

In a nutshell, coaching is all about assisting a client to close the gap between where they are in life and where they want to be. It’s about working alongside someone who wants to achieve more in their life than they currently have. A professional coach will assist in discovering what is important to you as the client, what may be missing from your life, both personally and professionally and what outcomes you are seeking. A coach will ask questions, listen, reflect back what they hear, and challenge your way of thinking in a way that allows you to create transformations.

In a practical sense coaching is all about finding ways to enhance your well being, performance and productivity both personally and professionally. It often involves questioning your current beliefs and ideas to challenge and find a better way and provides a great framework for self-observation, improvement and evaluation. It helps you to use your strengths and continually build on them to an optimum level. It is a valuable and effective tool that can give you an edge to life you never knew you could have.

Coaching is about improvement and change. It involves getting a clear picture of where you currently are in life, opening up to new possibilities, focusing on what it is you want to achieve, learning new ways of doing things and creating real value and a sense of purpose to life. A coach will assist you to create positive changes in your world, with the emphasis on finding solutions and way to achieve your goals.

Why work with a coach?

You may read about high level sports people, entertainers, business people, politicians and leaders having advisors, mentors and coaches. They all come from different backgrounds but work with these people for the same reason – to keep improving themselves and their lives. They understand that in order to have long term success the need to get an outside perspective, and the best way to do that is through someone else.

Coaching is not just for the elite, it is useful for many different people from many different backgrounds, who all want to achieve different goals and seek coaching for a variety of reasons. Some want to get clearer direction both in life and career, others want to relate to people more effectively and on a more meaningful level to attract love into their life, establish new relationships and deepen the ones they already have. Some people want to work on a specific outcome such as losing weight, saving money or managing time better.

Reasons you could consider coaching

If you are considering working with a coach it would usually be to:

·         Reach a goal that you have set, or getting help to set them

·         Make a positive change in your life

·         Solve a problem or issue that is holding you back

·         You feel stuck or confused about what to do

·         You want to achieve a new level of success in an area of your life that is already working for you

·         Reduce stress

·         Eliminate negative self-beliefs

·         Increase motivation

·         You want to be a better communicator

·         You feel you have low self-confidence or low self-esteem

·         You often feel uneasy meeting new people or socialising

·         You want to move past an old relationship or want to start a new one

·         You seem to have reached a ‘plateau’ or flat stage of life

What can coaching do for me and what are the benefits?

A coach will work with you to create the life you want to lead. They eliminate all the ‘shoulda, coulda, woulda and oughta’s out of your life and give clarity on your direction. The coaching process is not about the coach ‘telling you’ what to do nor is it designed to force you into changing everything, but rather the focus is on creating a new life from wherever you currently are to wherever you want to be.

A coach is also not an opinionated advisor but a judgement free sounding board for your plans and daily actions. Your coach can help to maintain a steady momentum in challenging times, gain and keep motivation to make the change you want to see, and can be the person to help you get back up after a setback. Your coach will always be on your side and committed to your success!

Anything is possible in a coaching relationship, it all comes down to what you want out of it. Some of the benefits people experience are:

·         A happier, more fulfilled life. The more you identify what you want in your life, you can then work towards achieving it. As you start seeing results you will become happier and more fulfilled because you are now creating the life you want.

·         More time and productivity. By learning how to set goals and work on problem areas you will become more efficient in other areas of your life and consequently become more productive and time efficient.

·         More energy and less stress. By working together we can discover the things that drain your energy and cause you stress. Finding strategies to remove these will enable you to focus on what actually does gives you the ability to feel energised and stress free.

·         Reaching goals faster.   By identifying what you really want, set goals and begin to see ways of achieving them, you are more likely to take action to reach them rather than just thinking about what you might do.

What can working with a coach provide?

It is a mixture of accountability, practical solutions, inspiration, validation, challenge, support and encouragement in a safe, confidential, judgment free environment. The experience of working towards your goals, dreams and desires with another person is very effective and rewarding.
