10 steps to find a Hypnotherapist

10 Steps to find a good hypnotherapist

1.       What is your goal? The first thing to be clear about is why you want to see a hypnotherapist. What do you want to get out of the session or sessions? If you are not sure speak to friends or family who have tried hypnotherapy or contact your local hypnotherapy organisation.

2.       Ask your friends and family. As always a referral from people we trust is always a good place to start. Then does this person meet the other requirements?

3.       Contact the industry recognised associations. A good place to find a qualified hypnotherapist in Australia is The Australian Hypnotherapists' Association and in the UK the National Council for Hypnotherapy. Members of these organisations have met the qualification and ethical standards which they require.

4.       Does the hypnotherapist have a photo or video of themselves you can see? Does this person come across to you as the type of person you could trust and work with? Would you be comfortable in a room on your own with this person?

5.       Does the hypnotherapist speak your language? Not only is it important that you speak the same basic language it is also important you use the same words and are on the same wave length. If you are not a hippy it is probably best you don’t go to one for advise, but rather find someone you can relate to.

6.       Does the hypnotherapist specialise in what you want to do? Particularly if you believe your problem to be unusual you are best to find someone who has had success in this area before.

7.       Is the Hypnotherapist located in a location that is good for you? The location should be convenient but also somewhere you will feel safe at the time of your appointment.

8.       Does the hypnotherapist teach you self-hypnosis? A good hypnotherapist should teach self-hypnosis to clients as part of their sessions. Hypnotherapy should be about empowering each client and teaching self-hypnosis is a key part of this process.

9.       Are you able to claim the session against your private health fund? Hypnotherapists registered with The Australian Hypnotherapists' Association have this facility.

10.   Does the hypnotherapist offer a no obligation free consultation? A chance for you to get a gut feeling wether this hypnotherapist and approach is right for you and your goal, without spending any money.
