What happens when my back is ‘out’?
The idea that your back is ‘out’ or your bones are ‘out of place’ is a very common misconception that has sometimes been used to explain what happens when the spine becomes painful and restricted. While it is certainly possible for bones to dislocate or subluxated (partial dislocation), these injuries are often serious and require specialist medical care.
There are many possible causes for back or neck pain and with a thorough evaluation, a diagnosis can be made for the cause of your symptoms. Each case must be evaluated on an individual basis and recommendations are tailored to suit your needs.
The origins of back pain will frequently relate back to a problem of loss of control and stability of the vertebra. Loss of spinal control may start at a very young age and progress slowly or it may be the result of repetitive stress or a major trauma. As control of the spine fails, there is greater potential for you to injure your spine - even during simple day to day movements.
Spinal adjustments work to re-establish control of your spine and decrease your pain. The combination of spinal adjustments and specific strengthening exercises works to increase your pain-free movement and lessens your chance of re-injury.
